The Mundane

When did life stop being exciting and turn become mundane? Well, let me tell you, it happened about the time I went back to work after the baby. I thought about this as I swooped through our evening routine last night. We get home, put E down for a nap, rush to make some dinner and eat if before she wakes up. Bathe her, feed her, read a story and then put her to bed. Then J and I are so exhausted that we slump on the couch, perhaps watch some TV and drag ourselves to bed around 9pm. We read for a bit and then pray E will sleep til 6am (as she stirs around 4:45). We never go out, I mean actually go out and see friends, we eat with the old folks at 6pm because that is when E is happy or asleep and we have to be home to get her in bed by 7:30/8. We go through the motions of how was your day and the ever-exciting what did you have for lunch. We kiss goodnight and begin again the next day.

It's been a year since the Napa vacation and let's face it, not so much fun for me, the preggo at that point. We did not get a honeymoon because well I was 5 months preggo and it was practically Christmas. And now, we just do not have time or money (ya know since we have two houses eating funds). I dream of the days when we went out on a whim, snuck out of work early just to see each other on a Friday and spent time talking and laughing.

Would I change having E? No, but man we need a little pizzazz in our lives. I wish he would come home with flowers or plan something for just the two of us. But, we are both so busy that life just remains mundane. (well minus the ever going game of what time will the baby wake up).

How do you keep the za za zoo in your marriage after kids?
